Meet OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Lisa Gonzalez | Director, Board President
lgonzalez@discoverycharter.org

Our family has been at Discovery since 2012. We have two highschoolers, who completed middle school at Discovery, and a 6th grader. It was my pleasure to serve as the Parent Advisory Council President from 2017-July 2021. I currently serve as our Volunteer Coordinator.

Apart from Discovery I am a Registered Nurse in women’s health at Northwestern Medicine, where I have worked for the last twenty-two years. I have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Purdue, where I graduated in 2002.

It is my pleasure to serve on the Discovery Board of Directors and give back to the school that has partnered with us on our parenting journey. I feel the key to a successful education is a partnership between families and educators to ensure that children are supported in their strengths and weaknesses.

Jessica Lynch | Director, Board Vice President
jlynch@discoverycharter.org

Our family joined the Discovery community in 2019. I feel privileged by the opportunity to sit on the Board of Directors and serve the Discovery families and surrounding communities.

My Chesterton roots run deep, in 2016 I joined the team of Fresh News, a local design store that focuses on customer service and delivering beautiful art, décor, and design services to their clientele. Helping people has always been a driving force in my life. Currently, I am a Paralegal at a local personal injury firm and am attending Northwestern University to obtain my Master’s Degree in Law. I aspire to bring together my professional interests and love of education to engage with parents and the community to create the best learning environment for the next generation.

My husband has deep community roots as well. He has started a group of winter warriors who surf and paddle board Lake Michigan during the summer and winter months. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, reading a good book, and doing anything athletic.

Suzanne Radzik | Director, Treasurer

I am honored to be a Board member of Discovery Charter School and to be able to work with their amazing staff who are dedicated to providing an exceptional educational experience in our area.

I am the Chief Financial Officer of the Duneland Family YMCA in Chesterton, Indiana, where I have worked 10 years. I am a Valparaiso native and have lived in Chesterton for the last 18 years where I raised my three children. This area of Indiana is beautiful and unique, and I am proud that such an excellent school is available to all in our surrounding communities. Thank you to the students, families, staff and volunteers that make Discovery great!

I am delighted to serve as a Discovery board member. As a family of six, we’ve called Discovery “home” since 2018, and love this community.

I am a native of Gary, IN, a United States Air Force Veteran, entrepreneur, and former tech leader at two Fortune Top 10 companies: Valero Energy and Microsoft. I am the founder of “Audacious Academy,” which empowers corporate professionals to take the ownership to advance their careers.

I have a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and currently serve on the board of advisors for University of Maryland Global Campus, my undergrad alma mater. I love to travel the world, and I lived in Europe for three years.

I’ve always been an advocate for youth – empowering them to be inclusive, confident, and resilient – as a former public school teacher, a nonprofit founder, and multi-award-winning filmmaker. I am excited to partner with and support our school’s faculty, staff, parents, volunteers, and students.

I am a mother of two, wife and daughter who loves education. As a Mom and School Psychologist, my goal is to partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments. I believe that this is key to strengthen connections between home, school, and the community.

I obtained a Bachelor's of Science degree in Psychology from Delaware State University. From then I worked with various social services agencies, served as a consultant for one the largest healthcare insurance companies, and served as a board member for a non for profit agency.

I then transitioned back to academia where I earned my Masters and Specialists degrees in School Psychology at Governors State University and obtained a Masters in Educational Leadership at Concordia University. As a life long learner, my most recent education has resulted in a certificate of DEI in Education.

Our family joined Discovery in 2020 and have been amazed with the Discovery community. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as a Board member of Discovery Charter School. I am excited to help shape the future of Discovery and its drive to nurture the idea of “how to think, not what to think.”

My wife, Ashley, and I have called ourselves Hoosiers and Porter County residents since 2010. I have a Bachelor’s in Business Administration in both Economics and Finance from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. In 2013, I graduated with a J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law. Since then, I have been a practicing attorney, licensed in both Indiana and Illinois.

Outside of work, I am an ardent Liverpool F.C. supporter and soccer fan in general. Food is also a passion of mine; everything from backyard burgers to Avant-garde fare. To balance out that eating, I indulge my love of the outdoors through hiking and frisbee golf...although maybe not as often as I should.

When I heard that Discovery Charter School was in the making, I knew immediately that I wanted my family to be a part of it. My youngest son had attended the Field Station and we were excited with the thought of a school that would share similar values concerning sustainability and the environment. My sons Lyle and Blaine were in the first sixth grade class (taught by Mr. Martinez) and first grade class (taught by Mrs. Phelps) at Discovery. I had been hoping for grades 9-12 to be added before Blaine graduated eighth grade in 2018!

I have been serving on the board since 2018 and am thrilled with the opportunity to try and give back to the school that had served my family so well while my children were there. It’s exciting to see children and families benefiting from the innovative teaching methods used at Discovery and I’m grateful for the administration and staff and their continued promotion of the original mission envisioned by the founders of the school.

My husband Bruce and I are the parents of three fabulous kids, I am the second generation owner of Nature’s Cupboard, a Natural Food Store located in Michigan City and Chesterton and a graduate of Purdue University with a BS in German and Biology.
