Updated COVID-19 Protocols

Effective February 23, 2022 Discovery Charter School will be following the recommended guidance from the Indiana Department of Health provided to schools on February 17, 2022.

Please read below for the updated protocols for COVID-19.

  • We will no longer conduct universal contact tracing or conduct individual case investigations

  • When we are notified of a positive case, a general notification will be shared with classroom/group

  • We will no longer require quarantining for individuals identified as a close contact

  • We will continue to follow CDC guidance for isolation of individuals testing positive for COVID-19

ISOLATION Protocols for individuals testing positive for COVID-19:

  • Stay home for at least 5 days, with the initial date of symptoms being considered day zero

  • May return to school Day 6 if asymptomatic or symptoms are resolving

  • Symptoms must be resolving/improving, and student must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication. Cough must be controlled, and student must be able to tolerate wearing the mask.

  • Continue to wear a mask at school, days 6 – 10

  • May resume extracurricular activities on Day 6 if able to wear a mask properly at all times for Days 6-10, and symptoms have resolved or are improving. It is recommended that the student get cleared by a physician to return to sports participation https://www.aap.org/en/pages/2019-novel-coronaviruscovid-19-infections/clinical-guidance/covid-19-interim-guidance-return-to-sports/

Discovery will move to mask optional after we remain in Yellow status for two consecutive weeks.

Masks Wearing:

  • Discovery will move to mask optional after we remain in Yellow status for two consecutive weeks. Wednesday, February 16th we were in Yellow. If we are in Yellow again on Wednesday, February 23rd that will be the second consecutive week which would mean we would move to being mask optional effective Monday, February 28th.

  • In the event we see an increased number of positive cases in the school or in the community, we can always return to requiring masks.
